It is a small evergreen perennial shrub and is found in all regions of Greece, mainly in dry and stony places. Sage (Salvia officinalis L.) of the family Lamiaceae family (of the family of the order Lamíales, is known since ancient times.
Salvia is derived from the Latin verb “salvo“.” which means “to heal”. It was considered a sacred herb by the Greeks, who dedicated it to Zeus. Our ancestors used it as a multi-purpose medicine and it is mentioned by Dioscorides, Aetius, Hippocrates and Galen, who praised it highly. The Latins used it as an antidote against the plague and the Chinese in traditional medicine.
It enhances memory and has antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, astringent, muscle relaxant, anthelmintic, stomach tonic, cardiotonic, antispasmodic, expectorant, antifungal and antidiabetic properties.
